    Calling all Professional Services Marketers!

    SMPS Northern New England is thrilled to offer a full day of educational programming for junior- to mid-level marketers looking to enhance their skills and take their careers to the next level!

    The program will kick-off with a keynote address from Yellow Light Breen, President & CEO of the Maine Development Foundation, and then feature educational programming centered around the Domains of Practice for Professional Services Marketing from four of our chapter’s own Certified Professional Services Marketers (CPSMs). The program will include lunch, plus a career panel at the end of the day, followed by a cocktail/networking hour. The full agenda is as follows: 

    • 8:30-9am: Registration
    • 9-9:45am: Keynote Address by Yellow Light Breen
    • 9:45-10:45am: Work Your Research Magic! Incorporating Intelligence-Gathering into Strategic Planning, presented by Katy Hews, FSMPS, CPSM
    • 10:45-11am: Break
    • 11am-12pm: How to Lead a SWOT Analysis & Turn it into an Actionable Plan, presented by Jen Andrews, CPSM
    • 12-1pm: Lunch
    • 1-2pm: The Elements of a Great Proposal, presented by Jennifer Booth, CPSM
    • 2-3pm: Where are the Clients and How Do I Get to Them?, presented by Anne Weidman, CPSM
    • 3-3:15pm: Break
    • 3:15-4pm: CPSM Panel
    • 4-5pm: Networking Happy Hour

    This program will be good for six continuing education units through SMPS.


    Yellow Light Breen, Keynote Speaker, President & CEO of Maine Development Foundation
    Yellow's passsion is promoting economic and educational opportunity for all Mainers regardless of geography or background. He became the CEO of Maine Development Foundation (MDF) in August 2015. In his role, he develops strategic direction, integration, and partnerships across MDF's mission and programs. Yellow is a sought-after public speaker with a diverse background in business, public policy, and law. He spent twelve years as an executive at Bangor Savings Bank, overseeing strategic planning, marketing, community development and charitable activities - among other responsibilities. Prior, he was a senior official at the Maine Department of Education and an advisor to Independent Governor Angus King. Yellow was born and raised in rural, central Maine, a product of Maine public schools, and earned undergraduate and law degrees from Harvard University. He has been an active volunteer in many education and economic development efforts, including the boards of the Maine Community Foundation and Educate Maine. He lives in Holden and loves to hike, swim, and ski with his wife and children.

    Katy Hews, FSMPS, CPSM - Senior Principal, Marketivity Inc.
    Katy Hews is a senior marketing professional with 40 years’ experience in A/E/C marketing. She is currently a Senior Principal with Marketivity Inc., providing a comprehensive range of strategic planning, research, client feedback, marketing program development, major pursuit and training services. She is also a strategic marketing consultant with the Hews Company, a fourth generation family-owned manufacturer and distributor of truck mounted construction equipment throughout Northern New England. Katy was Corporate Marketing Director for Macomber Builders, one of New England's premier contractors before its closing in 2007. Prior to joining Macomber, Katy was the marketing director for regional and international A/E/C firms in Boston, Massachusetts; Seattle, Washington and Denver, Colorado. She spent 13 years with URS Corporation, working on major federal pursuits around the United States. Katy has held leadership positions in SMPS, including president of the Northern New England Chapter (2014/2015 and 2009/2010) and was former education chair for the Boston and Seattle chapters. She was a chapter author in "A/E/C Business Development - The Decade Ahead", published by the SMPS Foundation. In addition to her SMPS involvement, Katy is Past President of the Women's Transportation Seminar (WTS) Maine Chapter.

    Jen Andrews, CPSM - Director of Marketing, Woodard & Curran
    Jen Andrews has more than 20 years of experience in marketing and communications. She is responsible for directing Woodard & Curran's strategic marketing efforts, including proposals, branding, event management, market research and content marketing. She works closely with the Business Development Leaders from each Strategic Business Unit to implement marketing endeavors that support the overall strategy of the firm, in addition to supporting clients in developing project-specific marketing materials. In addition to being a CPSM, Jen is a Past President of SMPS Northern New England.

    Anne Weidman, CPSM - Director of Community Engagement, JSA Design and Access Navigators
    Anne Weidman is the Director of Community Engagement for JSA Design and Access Navigators. She tracks trends in senior living, health care and higher education. She teaches a course on community accessibility at the University of New Hampshire and works to educate the public about the role of accessibility in the local economy. This accessibility expertise and outreach has become a thought leadership driver at JSA Inc, enabling the firm to position itself as a niche expert in existing market sectors. Anne serves on the Portsmouth Pecha Kucha committee, a design and story sharing event and is on the editorial board of AIA New Hampshire Forum magazine. She is a trustee at Strawberry Banke Museum and is part of the committee who oversees the outdoor ice rink. She is a Past President of SMPS Northern New England and lives in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. 

    Jennifer Booth, CPSM - Sales Manager, Haley & Aldrich
    Jennifer Booth is a sales manager at Haley & Aldrich, a geotechnical and environmental engineering firm with offices nationwide. In her role, she is responsible for leading the development of one-to-one client communications such as proposals, interview materials, and presentations for the Buildings & Infrastructure business unit. She also helps technical teams across the country with capture strategy planning. Jenn earned her CPSM in 2013 and was president of the Northern New England chapter from 2013-2014. In 2017, she earned her Foundation level certification from the Association for Proposal Management Professionals. A lover of music and the outdoors, Jenn lives in New Hampshire with her husband and five-year-old son.
