The field of transportation is evolving at a record pace. New technologies, such as autonomous vehicles, automated message board, and 5 G cellular networks, are changing the way transportation systems are designed, built and operated. At the same time, the states of Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont are facing changing demographics from an aging population and the unique challenges of meeting elderly transportation needs. The evolution of regional economic drivers is changing the dynamics of future transportation infrastructure needs. All of this in the face of real concerns about maintaining a safe transportation network while pedestrian and overall fatality rates are increasing on our nation’s highways. The leaders of the Transportation Departments of all three states are being challenged to keep pace with all of these somewhat opposing, yet intricately entwined needs.
Join SMPS NNE in partnership with WTS Maine as the three transportation leaders of Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont participate in panel discussion of how each state is addressing these needs.
- Commissioner David Bernhardt, PE, MaineDOT
- Commissioner Victoria Sheehan, New Hampshire DOT
- Secretary Joe Flynn, Vermont Agency of Transportation
The panel will be moderated by Joyce Taylor, PE, Chief Engineer of the MaineDOT.
